The district of Independencia is one of the eight districts of the province of Vilcas Huamán, in the region of Ayacucho. It is made up of 10 rural communities: Ayay, Occo, Paccha Huallhua, Pucapaccana, Quihuas, Ocro, Runcua, Toma, Upiray, Yananaco. It has a population of 339 families, composed mainly of adults between 30 and 60 years old, and 39% of its population is over 60 years old.
Pachamama Raymi has signed 2 agreements for this project, one with the District Municipality of Independencia, and the other with the Regional Commonwealth of the Andes.
The winning families and communities of the 1st Community and Family Contest have already been awarded prizes for obtaining the highest marks according to the juries; Incorporating best practices into their daily lives by making their homes healthy by tiling walls, smoke-free kitchens, growing more than 3 types of vegetables to improve their diet, growing avocado trees, building their plans for the future, making their businesses productive by building guinea pig sheds, participating in community agreements, practising orderly and rotational grazing and, in terms of forestation, exceeding the forestation goal with more than 340,000 cedar, alder, intimpa and pine seedlings.
